Cryotherapy in Nottingham — Skin Lesion Removal
Advanced Cryotherapy for Safe, Precise Skin Lesion Removal
Park Skin Clinic offers specialist cryotherapy services for the safe and effective removal of warts, skin tags, verrucae, and other benign skin lesions. Using the advanced CryoPen system, our clinical team can precisely target lesions as small as 1mm with minimal discomfort and no significant downtime — making it a fast, clinically proven solution for persistent skin concerns that have not responded to over-the-counter remedies or topical treatments.
Each procedure typically takes only minutes to complete. Particularly stubborn or longstanding lesions may require more than one treatment session, but your clinician will assess this at your consultation and advise on the most appropriate course of treatment for you.
What Is Cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy is a controlled procedure that removes skin lesions through rapid, targeted freezing. The treatment uses liquid nitrogen — an agent with an exceptionally low boiling point — applied with precision to the affected area.
At Park Skin Clinic, we use the CryoPen system, which delivers the cryogenic agent at higher pressure and lower temperatures than conventional cryotherapy methods. This precision technology allows for accurate targeting of even very small lesions, minimising impact to the surrounding healthy skin and improving both comfort and clinical outcomes.

Cryotherapy – Frequently Asked Questions
Is cryotherapy painful?
Most clients experience only minimal discomfort during the procedure. A mild burning or stinging sensation immediately after treatment is common, but this typically subsides within minutes. Standard over-the-counter pain relief can be taken if needed.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on the type, size, and depth of the lesion being treated. Many lesions resolve after a single session, while more persistent or longstanding lesions may require two or three treatments. Your clinician will advise you at your consultation and after each session.
Is there any downtime?
Cryotherapy requires no significant downtime. Most clients return to normal daily activities immediately after their appointment. The treated area will scab over and heal naturally over the following one to two weeks.
Will cryotherapy leave a scar?
Scarring is rare but possible, particularly with deeper lesions. The CryoPen system is designed to minimise damage to surrounding tissue, reducing the risk of scarring compared to less precise methods. Your clinician will discuss this with you during your consultation.
Can cryotherapy treat all types of skin lesion?
Cryotherapy is effective for a wide range of benign skin lesions. It is not suitable for every skin concern, and some lesions may require a different approach. Any lesion that appears unusual or requires further investigation will be referred appropriately before treatment proceeds.
What should I do if I have concerns after treatment?
If you experience persistent pain, signs of infection, or anything unexpected after your treatment, please contact the clinic as soon as possible. We are always happy to answer questions and support you through your aftercare.
Conditions Treated
Cryotherapy at Park Skin Clinic is suitable for a broad range of benign (non-cancerous) skin lesions, including:
- Viral warts
- Verrucae
- Skin tags
- Actinic keratoses
- Seborrhoeic keratoses
If you are unsure whether your lesion is suitable for cryotherapy, your clinician will carry out a thorough assessment at your consultation. Any lesion that appears unusual or requires further investigation will be referred appropriately before treatment proceeds.
The Treatment Process
Before Treatment
Your consultation is carried out before any procedure begins. Your clinician will assess the lesion, discuss the most appropriate approach, and ensure cryotherapy is suitable for your specific concern. Any potential risks or benefits will be explained in full before you commit to treatment.
During Treatment
Liquid nitrogen is applied to the affected area using the CryoPen system. Application duration varies according to the size, depth, and type of lesion being treated. Following the initial freeze, the skin is allowed to thaw naturally before the process is repeated once or twice more. The entire procedure typically takes only a few minutes.
After Treatment
Following treatment, the lesion will typically form a scab, which separates naturally within one to two weeks. Depending on the characteristics of the lesion, multiple treatment sessions may be required for complete resolution. Your clinician will advise on this at your appointment.
You may experience a mild burning sensation immediately after treatment, which typically subsides within minutes. Standard pain relief such as paracetamol can be taken if needed. If persistent pain develops at the treatment site, please contact the clinic promptly.
Potential Side Effects
Cryotherapy is a safe and well-established procedure, but as with any clinical treatment, some side effects are possible:
- Pain or discomfort (common)
- Swelling and redness (common)
- Blister formation
- Altered pigmentation at the treatment site — more common in individuals with darker skin tones
- Temporary numbness
- Recurrence of the treated lesion
- Infection (rare)
- Scarring (rare)
Your clinician will discuss all potential side effects with you before treatment begins.
Aftercare Guidelines
Following your cryotherapy treatment, please observe the following aftercare instructions:
- Keep the treated area dry
- Do not disturb or pick at any scab that forms — allow it to detach naturally
- Some initial redness and mild swelling is expected; occasional blisters may develop
- If a blister forms, it may be carefully drained using a sterile needle
- The treated area may darken in colour over several days as the scab develops — this is normal
- Healing generally occurs within approximately one week
- Be aware that some changes in skin pigmentation (lightening or darkening) may occur once the scab separates, particularly in individuals with darker skin tones
